Squamish Ninja Gym: School Packages Supporting BC Physical Literacy Goals

The Squamish Ninja Gym offers school trip packages designed to meet the physical literacy objectives of the BC curriculum. Our large facility accommodates two groups of 25 students at a time, providing a range of movement-based activities that foster skill development, teamwork, and self-confidence. Students will enjoy a dynamic, hands-on experience that includes specific obstacle training, games, challenges, and even laser tag (upon request). The gym features a large range of fun and challenging obstacles, including 14-foot warped wall, zip-line, swinging bars, airbags and a mezzanine area for eating and observation. With customizable options, we provide an environment that inspires students to push their limits and achieve new milestones.

Physical Literacy and Curriculum Alignment:

  • Competence in a Variety of Physical Skills:
Students will develop fundamental movement patterns such as balance, coordination, agility, and spatial awareness by navigating obstacles. These activities improve body control and coordination in a fun, non-traditional gym setting, supporting key curriculum goals related to physical competence.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving in Movement:
The challenges presented by our obstacle courses require students to think critically about how to approach and overcome physical barriers. This promotes cognitive engagement alongside physical development, fostering an understanding of how to modify movements and strategies for success.
  • Resilience and Perseverance:
As students attempt and retry obstacles, they learn the value of persistence, practice, and improvement through trial and error. This structured approach to learning mirrors the BC curriculum's emphasis on personal growth, resilience, and perseverance in physical education.
  • Physical, Mental, and Social Well-being:
Our gym not only builds physical skills but also emphasizes emotional and social development. Students support one another by cheering on their peers, which fosters a sense of community and encourages positive relationships.
  • Real-World Application of Physical Literacy Skills:
The variety of skills learned at the gym—ranging from grip strength and explosive power to fine motor control—directly apply to everyday life and physical activities. This hands-on experience helps students gain the confidence and competence to engage in a wide variety of physical activities outside the gym, further reinforcing lifelong physical literacy.
